Seamus Blake

Saxophonist Seamus Blake is one of the most in-demand sidemen in New York. Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Blake began playing classical violin at the age of nine, and started playing alto in his high school stage band.

After switching to tenor, Blake attended Berklee College in Boston where he had the opportunity to interact with many great young players.

Since moving to New York in the early nineties Blake has performed and recorded with Victor Lewis, Billy Drummond, Darrell Grant, Kevin Hays, Bill Stewart and Dave Kikoski, as well as leading his own groups on his records "The Call", "Four Track Mind" and "Stranger Things Have Happened".

Seamus Blake has toured frequently with John Scofield, worked regularly with the Mingus Big Band, and headed his own electronic group, the Bloomdaddies.

He recently toured Europe with his own quartet featuring Victor Lewis, Kevin Hays and Ed Howard. His latest release is on Criss Cross is entitled "Echonomics", and the new Bloomdaddies record will be released on Fresh Sound Records.
